About Pei-Ling Hsu

Dr. Pei-Ling Hsu is Associate Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso and is a former high school earth science teacher. She received her M.S. in science education from National Taiwan Normal University in Taiwan and Ph.D. in science education from University of Victoria in Canada. Her research interests focus on science discourse, science identity, partnerships with scientists, and dialogic pedagogy. She is the author/co-author/co-editor of 4 books, 34 refereed journal articles, 15 book chapters, and 75 presentations at international and national conferences. Her publications appeared in top journals in science education, such as the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Science Education, Research in Science Education and International Journal of Science Education. In terms of grants, Dr. Hsu received more than 2 million funding from various sources, such as National Science Foundation, the Office Research and Sponsored Projects (UTEP), College of Education (UTEP). Dr. Hsu is also the recipient of 2015 Regions’ Outstanding Teaching Awards from University of Texas System. She has taught different education courses at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Also, through the partnership with different organizations (e.g., museums, after school programs) and schools, Dr. Hsu’s undergraduate and graduate students participated in creating engaging science projects for K-12 students inside and outside schools.
